ABOUT GARTH WILLIAMS

As a broadcaster, communications strategist and public affairs professional, I've seen what clear communication builds — and what poor communication quietly costs.

I've spent twenty years inside the room where the message gets made.

My career started in broadcasting. Radio and television gave me my foundation — how to read a room, how to hold attention, how to make complex things clear under pressure. As a broadcaster, producer, voice-over artist and morning television presenter, I learned early that communication is not just what you say. It is how you make people feel when you say it.

Strategist. Broadcaster. Builder.

I grew up in Westmoreland, Jamaica as the child of educators, and I think that background shaped something fundamental in the way I approach my work. Teaching and communicating share the same core discipline: you are only effective if the person in front of you actually understands what you are saying.

A confident-looking black man with a beard and glasses, in a dark blue suit and blue checkered shirt, posing with arms crossed and smiling.

Over the past twenty years I have moved between media, public relations, corporate communications and public affairs. I have written speeches for executives, shaped messaging for institutions, moderated high-profile events, and advised leaders on how to present themselves and their organisations with greater clarity and credibility.

My work has spanned public-private partnerships, public education campaigns, corporate social responsibility initiatives and crisis communications — across government, corporate and non-profit environments in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.

I hold professional training in emotional intelligence — something that informs every piece of communication work I do. Understanding what an audience is feeling, not just what they need to hear, is the difference between a message that lands and one that is merely sent.

Today I serve in a senior communications leadership role within Jamaica's public sector, while consulting independently with organisations and leaders who need communication that is intentional, audience-centred and built to land.

The Say It Right brand is built on a simple conviction: most communication problems are not failures of effort. They are failures of design. When you fix the design — the message, the tone, the channel, the timing — the results follow.

THE PRINCIPLES BEHIND THE WORK

Communication is not decoration. It is infrastructure.

A message that sounds impressive but leaves people confused has failed. The goal is always understanding.

Clarity over cleverness.

What you want to say matters less than what your audience needs to hear. Start there and work backwards.

Audience before content.

Most communication problems are not writing problems. They are thinking problems. Fix the strategy first.

Strategy before execution.

DAD DOWNLOAD

A smiling family of three standing together indoors. The father, wearing glasses and a black shirt, stands behind the children with his hand on one child's shoulder. The girl, with braided hair and wearing a festive pink and white sweater, is on the right. The boy, with glasses and short curly hair, is in front wearing a black T-shirt that says 'Let's Rock' with a lightning bolt.

Fatherhood is leadership in its most personal form.

Outside of the work, I am a father — and that identity is as central to who I am as any professional credential. It started with the Jamaican Dadz Podcast, a media production created to give fathers a space to reflect honestly on what showing up really looks like. That work evolved into Dad Download, the space where I continue that conversation.

Dad Download is where I reflect on fatherhood without performance: the presence it demands, the communication it requires, and the kind of man I am choosing to be for my children. If you are a father working on showing up better — in your words, your tone, your presence — this part of the brand is for you.
